EYELASH EXTENSIONS – FAQ’s
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are lightweight, synthetic eyelashes that come in a huge range of lengths, thicknesses, curl styles and colours – they are expertly bonded individually on a ‘lash by lash’ basis to your own natural lashes giving you longer, thicker, more luscious looking lashes. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions and everyday wear and are so soft and flexible you won’t even know you are wearing them.
Are eyelash extensions safe?
Yes, Fab Lashes eyelash extensions products are completely safe and will not damage your natural lashes when applied using the correct technique. As with any beauty treatment we recommend that you use a professional trained and certified eyelash extensions technician as application by an uncertified technician, or use of inferior quality products, may result in damage to your natural lashes.
What do eyelash extensions look like when applied?
Properly applied Eyelash Extensions will look and feel completely natural – they will be longer, more curly and definitely more full and luxurious than average natural lashes – in fact, they look so real that most people will think you were born with beautiful lashes.
What does it feel like and how long does it take to apply eyelash extensions?
The entire procedure is very relaxing, taking between 1 – 2.5 hours to apply a complete set of Eyelash Extensions depending on the design. During this time you will be lying on a comfortable beauty bed with your eyes closed – many people fall asleep and wake to find their eyelash extensions complete. Eyelash Extensions Infill treatments take approximately one hour. Remember to bring your Ipod/MP3 to your appointment so you can relax while listening to your favourite music.
How do I care for my eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are easy to care for, to ensure your lashes last as long as possible please follow the aftercare instructions provided at your initial treatment (also noted below), paying special attention to the first two days – during this time the adhesive is curing to its full strength and instructions must be followed to ensure maximum bonding strength.
Some clients even wear goggles in the shower for the first two days – it is amazing the lengths we will go to for our lashes! After the initial two day period your eyelash extensions lashes only need a little special attention such as being treated gently and combed through daily but overall they are low maintenance. Take care with products that come into contact with the lashes – which should be oil and glycol free – as these products will weaken the adhesive bond.
Eyelash Extensions – The First Two Days
The correct care for your eyelash extensions lashes in the first 48 hours will ensure they are as long-lasting as possible.
- Keep your eyelash extensions lashes completely dry for the first 24 hours and avoid contact with steam. Some lash clients even wear goggles in the shower!
- For best results avoid swimming, spas, tanning and excessive steam for 48 hours – take care when showering, exercising and opening microwaves, ovens etc.
Following these instructions will allow the adhesive to cure to its fullest strength and will help your eyelash extensions lashes to form the strongest bond possible.

How long will a set of eyelash extensions last?
Properly applied by a certified lash technician eyelash extensions can remain in place until your natural lash falls out (usually between 60 and 120 days). To keep you lashes looking as fabulous as when they are first applied; regular 2 – 3 weekly infill treatments are necessary as your eyelash extensions will gradually diminish in number due to the natural shedding and replenishing cycle of your own eyelashes. Infill treatments are inexpensive and usually take under one hour.
Can I apply eye makeup and mascara to eyelash extensions?
Yes, normal use of eye makeup is fine, however you should not find it necessary to use mascara on a daily basis, if you would like to use mascara at any time it is essential you only use a water-based mascara (not water-proof or oil-based) – regular use of mascara may shorten the lifespan of your lash extensions. Care must also be taken when removing makeup not to use any products that are contain oil or glycols – these all weaken the adhesive bond and cause eyelash extensions to fall off prematurely.
Can I swim, shower exercise or visit a spa while wearing eyelash extensions?
Absolutely – following the initial two day period. Our adhesives are strong and waterproof and will withstand normal wear and tear, providing the proper after-care instructions are followed lash extensions will not stop you from carrying on with your normal daily activities. As detailed in the after-care instructions, special care in the first 48 hours is very important to maximise the strength of the adhesive bond.
How do I prepare for my eyelash extensions treatment?
Precious lash application time can easily be used up by the need to clean eyes in preparation for your treatment – to avoid this please come to your appointment with clean, makeup free eyes. Be prepared to relax for 1-2 hours, many clients like to bring their Ipod to listen to while relaxing and some even fall asleep and wake with beautiful new lash extensions.

Eyelash Extensions are a favourite for brides – long, luscious, perfect lashes with no need for mascara. Eyelash Extensions should be applied two days prior to the wedding day, this ensures that they are looking at their optimum fullness on the big day and a trial set should be applied around one month earlier.
We believe that trial sets of eyelash extensions, while not essential, are definitely advisable – for those special occasions we always want to make sure the bride is perfectly happy and this can be ensured by creating a ‘practice’ set of lashes a around one month prior to the wedding day.
