EYELASH EXTENSIONS – FAQ’s
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are lightweight, synthetic eyelashes that come in a huge range of lengths, thicknesses, curl styles and colours – they are expertly bonded individually on a ‘lash by lash’ basis to your own natural lashes giving you longer, thicker, more luscious looking lashes. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions and everyday wear and are so soft and flexible you won’t even know you are wearing them.
Are eyelash extensions safe?
Yes, Fab Lashes eyelash extensions products are completely safe and will not damage your natural lashes when applied using the correct technique. As with any beauty treatment we recommend that you use a professional trained and certified eyelash extensions technician as application by an uncertified technician, or use of inferior quality products, may result in damage to your natural lashes.
What do eyelash extensions look like when applied?
Properly applied Eyelash Extensions will look and feel completely natural – they will be longer, more curly and definitely more full and luxurious than average natural lashes – in fact, they look so real that most people will think you were born with beautiful lashes.
What does it feel like and how long does it take to apply eyelash extensions?
The entire procedure is very relaxing, taking between 1 – 2.5 hours to apply a complete set of Eyelash Extensions depending on the design. During this time you will be lying on a comfortable beauty bed with your eyes closed – many people fall asleep and wake to find their eyelash extensions complete. Eyelash Extensions Infill treatments take approximately one hour. Remember to bring your Ipod/MP3 to your appointment so you can relax while listening to your favourite music.
How do I care for my eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are easy to care for, to ensure your lashes last as long as possible please follow the aftercare instructions noted below – your lash artist will have discussed proper after care with you at your lash appointment.
After the initial two day period your eyelash extensions lashes are reasonably low maintenance, needing only the tiniest bit of special attention.
Eyelash Extensions – The First Two Days
At Fab Lashes we promote ‘snap’ curing of lash adhesive with a nebuliser to reduce the possibility of sensitivity reactions occurring. This means you can, and should, wash your their lashes every night, particularly on the night of application. Below you will find a recipe for a Lash Shampoo that is perfect (and inexpensive) for home use.
- Wash lashes and lash line every night with lash shampoo or other foaming cleanser designed for lash extensions – particularly the night of application to rinse away any fumes that may have formed during the curing process, if not rinsed away, these fumes can become trapped among the lashes and could potentially cause irritation for a small number of people.
- Use a hairdryer on cool setting to carefully dry your lashes and comb through gently with a mascara wand.
- For best results avoid spas, tanning and excessive steam for 48 hours – take care when showering, exercising and opening microwaves, ovens etc.
Note: If your lash artist is not using a nebuliser (or other method) to cure your lashes then we recommend keeping lashes dry for 48 hours. Resume normal care after this time period.
Day to Day Care
It is of the utmost importance that the eye area and lashes are kept clean even if wearing lash extensions, failure to do so can result in irritation and inflammations that can damage your natural lashes. If you experience any irritation please contact your lash artist.
- Clean lashes daily using our recommended Lash Shampoo (see below for recipe and instructions)
- Avoid any oil based products near lashes as these will weaken the bond of the adhesive.
- Groom lashes every day, especially in the morning; this will help to keep them looking beautiful at all times and helps to keep them nicely separated.
- Treat lashes gently – no rubbing, pulling, picking or tugging.
- Do not use waterproof mascara or perm/tint lash extensions.
- Use Fab Lashes waterproof coating sealant 2-3 times a week to extend the life of lash extensions and help to maintain isolation.
- We recommend the use of our Fab Lashes Lashurious Lash Conditioner to keep natural lashes in top condition.
Lash Shampoo Recipe
¼ Baby Shampoo
1 teaspoon baking soda
Mix together in a foam pump bottle and use daily as described below:
- Apply foaming lash shampoo mix to lashes, let the cleanser do the work by using gently upward strokes on the lashes
- Rinse well with tepid water
- Carefully squeegee off excess water using fingertips (this should also be done following swimming)
- Dry lashes with a hairdryer on cool setting
- Comb your lashes with your mascara wand – support the underneath of lashes while combing through
Note: Be sure to replace your lash shampoo mixture at weekly intervals to avoid bacteria growth.
How long will a set of eyelash extensions last?
When properly applied by a certified lash technician and carefully looked after eyelash extensions can remain in place for up to two months or until your natural lash falls out (lashes grow in cycles of about 60 to 120 days). To keep you lashes looking as fabulous as when they are first applied; regular 2 – 3 weekly infill treatments are necessary as your eyelash extensions will gradually diminish in number due to the natural shedding and replenishing cycle of your own eyelashes. Infill treatments are inexpensive and usually take under one hour.
Can I apply eye makeup and mascara to eyelash extensions?
Yes, normal use of eye makeup is fine, however you should not find it necessary to use mascara on a daily basis, if you would like to use mascara at any time it is essential you only use a water-based mascara (not water-proof or oil-based) – regular use of mascara may shorten the lifespan of your lash extensions. Care must also be taken when removing makeup not to use any products that are contain oil or glycols – these all weaken the adhesive bond and cause eyelash extensions to fall off prematurely.
Can I swim, shower exercise or visit a spa while wearing eyelash extensions?
Absolutely – following the initial two day period. Our adhesives are strong and waterproof and will withstand normal wear and tear, providing the proper after-care instructions are followed lash extensions will not stop you from carrying on with your normal daily activities. As detailed in the after-care instructions, special care in the first 48 hours is very important to maximise the strength of the adhesive bond.
How do I prepare for my eyelash extensions treatment?
Precious lash application time can easily be used up by the need to clean eyes in preparation for your treatment – to avoid this please come to your appointment with clean, makeup free eyes. Be prepared to relax for 1-2 hours, many clients like to bring their Ipod to listen to while relaxing and some even fall asleep and wake with beautiful new lash extensions.

Should I have a trial set of eyelash extensions done before applying them for a wedding?
Eyelash Extensions are a favourite for brides – long, luscious, perfect lashes with no need for mascara. Eyelash Extensions should be applied two days prior to the wedding day, this ensures that they are looking at their optimum fullness on the big day and a trial set should be applied around one month earlier.
We believe that trial sets of eyelash extensions, while not essential, are definitely advisable – for those special occasions we always want to make sure the bride is perfectly happy and this can be ensured by creating a ‘practice’ set of lashes a around one month prior to the wedding day.
How do I remove eyelash extensions?
If for any reason you wish to have your eyelash extensions removed, please do not attempt to pull them off yourself—this can damage your natural lashes. Professional removal is quick and inexpensive and protects your natural lashes.
