SKIN FX DERMA ROLLER

WHAT IS THE SKIN FX DERMA ROLLER?

Our derma roller is a precision engineered, pre-sterilised hand held roller with a cylinder encasing a series of fine medical grade, stainless steel needles ranging in length from 0.2mm to 1.5mm.

It has been specifically designed to be rolled over the skin in order to create miniscule pinpricks in the epidermis, thereby increasing the penetration of active topical substances while also stimulating collagen production through the wound healing process. The tiny pinpricks created will close within an hour or so, while renewal continues under the surface of the skin.

For safe at home use we recommend the 0.2mm and 0.5mm lengths to enhance penetration of skin care products and healthier, younger looking skin.

Derma Rollers are for use by an individual person only, they may be sterilised for re-use by that person – however, they must not be shared under any circumstances. The lifespan of a Derma Roller depends on the treated skin – eventually the needles will become blunt and the device will require replacing – as a rule, if used on the face once times per week a roller should last approximately 10 months.

HOW DOES A DERMA ROLLER WORK?

The main objective of a derma roller is to encourage skin rejuvenation and improvement through penetration of the skin with the miniscule needles of the device creating microscopic channels that reach into the dermis. This has a two-fold effect:

Increased Penetration of Active Substances

Under normal conditions any active substances applied topically to the skin have great difficulty penetrating the stratum corneum to reach their intended destination. As a result of a derma rolling treatment, these active substances are actually pushed through the stratum corneum and into the lower layers of the epidermis where they become far more effective, as the micro channels created during the treatment remain open for approximately one hour any active substance applied following a treatment are also absorbed far more efficiently. Studies have shown that penetration of topical substances, applied prior to and immediately following a derma roller treatment, has increased by up to 4000% - simply amazing.

Collagen Induction Therapy

The micro channels created by the roller are perceived by the body to be an injury, the body is actually fooled into thinking that there has been damage to the skin and so launches into repair mode (a normal response to injury). This initiates a cascade of events known as the wound healing process in which each micro channel created goes through a process of inflammation, proliferation and then tissue remodelling resulting in increased collagen and elastin production – if there is just one tiny channel, this response would not be of such importance, however when you think of the thousands of tiny micro channels created during a derma roller treatment – the result is a whole new layer of collagen laid down over the treated area. This process may be repeated until the desired results are achieved. Studies have shown up to a 1000% increase in collagen and elastin production.

Consult your skin care therapist to discuss the superior benefits achieved through professional derma roller treatments in conjunction with home roller treatments.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DERMA ROLLER

Wash derma roller immediately following use with hot water and then stand in alcohol solution (i.e. Isopropyl Alcohol available from your Pharmacy) for at least 30 minutes. Allow to dry before storing in the plastic case provided.

WHAT IS COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY?

The production of new collagen is the main objective of all skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as Skin Needling, Micro Needling, Multi Trepannic Collagen Actuation and Dermal Rolling is simply a safe, yet very effective method of stimulating this much sought after collagen production process.

The principle of CIT is simple, the procedure allows far greater penetration of topically applied products as well as stimulating the body to produce new collagen through its own natural healing process. This is accomplished by causing microscopic injury to the dermis using miniscule needles to puncture the skin, although not a wound in the classical sense, the body recognises this perceived trauma and triggers the body’s own wound healing process. These tiny wounds and the subsequent healing process prompt the body to produce its own collagen—even in peri and post-menopausal women. As the body is producing its own natural collagen, there is no possibility of rejection and the newly created collagen will last as long as the body's own collagen—5-10 years or more. Collagen induction can continue for up to 12 months following a treatment.

Results are similar to those obtained from any ablative method used for similar purposes such as acid peels, dermabrasion and laser, with the exception that in a collagen induction therapy treatment the epidermis remains intact in order to protect the underlying skin during the healing process.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY?
